Dear Study Group Participants, It is with sadness that I communicate the passing of Jim Carlo. He was a leader in the IEEE and a mentor to many in this group, and throughout 802. When I heard of his passing, the first thing that came to mind was Jim's sense of humor. I was honored to play a part in an elaborate joke he put upon the evening social where he went into a long monologue about how a double-negative was always a positive, but a double-positive was also always a positive and could never be a negative. My role was to shout from the crowd, "Yeah, right!". I remember during some of the more contentious debates that occurred in the 90s, having Jim come up to me and seek my viewpoint and offer gracious support. It was an honor to know him. I just heard from Muffy Carlo that Jim Carlo has passed away. I spoke with Jim shortly before Christmas after hearing from Muffy that he had been battling cancer for two years. He was in good spirits, but obviously in deteriorating health. I thoroughly enjoyed working closely with him for many years and will miss him. I wanted to let those of you that knew him and worked with him to know and to spread the word to others that would want to know. Bob Love |
