Dear Colleagues,
on the last call we
discussed the possible time delay within modes of a mode group in rotational
symetric fibers.
Enclosed you will
find an example which demonstrates that there exists various speeds within
a mode group for fiber profiles which are not ideal.
The file shows the
result of a calculation of a rotational symmetric fiber with 2 exponents of
a1=1,97 and a2=2,05 with the alpha change at R=17µm.
You can observe that
there is no delay within a mode group for the low order modes which "see" the
perfect profile, but there is calculated a large delay within a group for the
mode groups 8 to 12 which travel in the area of the alpha
change.
If the power
distribution within a mode group changes due to the change of the launch
condition it is possible to get a change in the pulse response of the fiber
even in rotational symmetric fibers for this case.
