this will depend on the magnitude of slope efficiency variation (a range)
and rate of change. if the variation were large enough to cause concern,
and there were no other mechanism built-in to the PHY to compensate,
a part -could- (note the emphasis) be inialized at-temp and brought
on-line.
in general, temperature sensitivity is large enough to be a concern.
in general, PHY vendors build-in automatic compensation. what's
needed is demonstration that all of it is adequate for 5-PAM.
