RE: (SSIG) Taking the winning route

All:

For 850 nm applications using MM fibers, there are many options for 10 GbE.

For fiber types, there are installed 62.5/50 um fibers, and the new improved
62.5/50 um fibers.

For network configurations, there are 3.125 Gbps (8B/10B) 4-bit, 2.5 Gbps
(PAM-5) 4-bit, and 10 Gbps serial.

Based on my previous presentation, and the data available from the new
fibers, with quick estimation (New fiber data are not final, estimated. I
posted for discussion only)

Therefore, there are many options:

			Installed New Improved
			(Optimum Launch)
			62.5 um	50 um 62.5 um 50 um

2.5 Gbps/4-bit	300 m 300 m 400 meter 800 meter(?)

3.125 Gbps/4-bit	170 meter	200 meter 300 meter 600 meter (?)

10.Gbps serial <100meter <100 meter 100 meter (?)	200 meter (?)

We can expand them with more vigorous tests.

850nm VCSELs for 10 GE require customers to deploy new high-bandwdith MMF.
I would recommend that PMD solutions are based on installed base MMF or SMF.

Specifying a PMD that implies a brand new MMF infrastructure is not
consistent with the goal of using existing technology wherever possible.

Of all the MM-fiber PMD proposals, only the 850nm serial VCSEL solution over
the
new high-performance fibers has so far been shown to work under stressed
systems
conditions, with Bit Error Rate measurements and careful analysis of the
systems
impairments to support that, and working with VCSELs from many vendors.
The
suggestions below are highly puzzling to me...
