Re: PMD discussion
As one of a few PMD suppliers with real internal volume manufacturing
capacity, I agree that fewer the number of PMD choices, less to invest in
product development, higher the volume demand for each PMD, and lower the
production cost, allowing the saving to be passed along to customers.
Therefore, 3-PMD is better than 5-PMD as long as the choice can address the
distance objectives. It is not a straightforward argument that the
optoelectronics part will always be more expensive than the electronics part
in the PMDs according to the production cost model for the PMDs we are
shipping.
