RE: Clause 49 PCS Gear Box
Rick,
The gearbox is described in 49.2.7. The material in the presentation to
which you refer
(walker_1_0300.pdf pages 13 and 14) was an example of how one might
implement a gearbox.
Where possible, we write 802.3 standards to specify behavior at
compatability interfaces
and allow any implementation that will produce the required behavior.
Therefore, clause
49 describes the function the gearbox must provide and does not include
information from
the implementation example.

Subject: Clause 49 PCS Gear Box
After reading Clause 49, I did not see any reference to the 33:32 Gearbox
logic as presented at the conference in Albuquerque on 3/6/00. Is there a
description somewhere else? In that presentation I saw an analog phase
detector, is there any suggestions on a digital implementation on an FPGA?
