Eye Safety Std Update
All,
FYI, below is a note from Jane Ehrgott, Lucent's representative to IEC
60825, regarding the progress in revising the International Eye Safety
Standard. The ballot results are attached in a note from Jerome Dennis, the
Chair of the IEC committee and an official of the CDRH at the FDA.
Paul Kolesar
The new amendment to IEC 60825 Part 1 Laser Safety standard has been
approved! See below for the results. The existing Safety Classifications
will change allowing for greater transmitted power levels. Only after the
IEC meeting in Japan the week of Nov 13-17 will we know when the standard
will actually be published and official as well as how it will affect the
Part 2 OFCS (optical fiber communication system) standard. (The new Classes
need to be integrated into Part 2.)
