Signal detect in Clause 48 (PCS/PMA) is "attached" to signal detect in
Clause 54 (PMD). Since there are four receive circuits in the PMD, there
are also four signal detect signals at the PMD at some point (i.e. one
SD for each color). Clause 48 supports four signal detect inputs, one
for each lane.
When generated by a PMD, signal detect is fully specified in Clause 54.
When generated at a XAUI receiver, signal detect is unspecified.
