The IETF Ethernet Interfaces and Hub MIB WG met for one two-hours session
during the IETF meeting in Minneapolis, on 3/22. The WG discussed the
status of the current documents, and possible new work derived from the new
Ethernet technologies in work in the IEEE 802.3 WG.
Concerning the status of the current documents, the WG decided that no
further work or actions will be taken concerning the Repeater MIB RFC 2108.
It was decided that implementation experience will be gathered concerning
the implementations of the Ethernet-like Interfaces MIB RFC 2665 and the MAU
MIB 2668.
Concerning new work within the IEEE 802.3 WG, the WG decided to focus on the
development of MIB extensions related to IEEE 802.ae and 802.3af, with the
goal of releasing SNMP MIB support, approximately in the same timeframe as
the IEEE standards extensions, around March 2002. Consensus was expressed by
the WG to perform this work, and three-four volunteers registered to
contribute as editors for each one of the work items. The WAN interfaces in
the 10 Gbp/s Ethernet work might require cooperation with the IETF SONET MIB
WG. The WG decided to request from the IETF Network Management and
Operations Area Director approval for an update of the WG Charter in order
to start working on two new working items, related to MIB support for 10
Gbp/s Ethernet and Power Ethernet.
