Tricci,

I believe this is a case of the market needing a feature that the standards bodies have not gotten around to documenting and formalizing just yet.  Just like vendors built VLAN's and trunks, ELAN's, Multiple Instance Spanning Tree, etc... before they were official, Jumbo will hopefully be officially blessed some day as well.  Until then it is the users that need to do more home work to ensure the compatibility and compliance instead of the standards bodies and vendors who support them. 

Sometime standards lead, while other times they follow.  I am thankful for all the work they do to develop standards and eventually, if the demand is there, they will catch up with most of the features.

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for the insight.  Is that meant the support of Jumbo frame also
not a standard for 1GbE?  However, I find many 1GbE products advertised
Jumbo frame support upto 9K.  Is that meant this is only a value added
feature?

Jumbo frames (with the exception of 1522 bytes for vlan tags) are not
specified in any 802.3 standard.  There would have been a serious problem
with backward compatibility with other than 10 GbE equipment if we had
included support in 802.3ae.  Since jumbo frames would have to have been
standardized throughout 802.3 it was declared outside the scope of 802.3ae.
