[802.3ae] Question on Modal Bandwidth

All,

In scanning the spec, I found an interesting contradiction. 

 

The modal bandwidths listed for the 850nm Serial PMD starts at 140 MHz/Km (62.5/125 MMF) but the modal bandwidth for the 1310 WWDM (similar fiber) starts at 500 MHz/Km.  Why such different starting modal bandwidth specifications for the same cable type for different PMD specifications?
