From serial PMD call, 10 April
This week there were just four people on the call. If others were unable to
connect and sufficiently inconvenienced, consider contacting Sprint Personal
Conferencing; try

intbiz/bcs/feedback.html to encourage them to improve their
capacity/connectivity.
We discussed the definition of optical transmitter spectral width: we don't
know of a measurement standard for single mode lasers, but believe that
modern optical spectrum analysers can measure to the sort of resolution
mentioned in the standard.
We noted that Cl. 52.7.1.1 "Channel requirements for transmit jitter
testing" asks for fibre of the appropriate dispersion sign which may not be
available for all ~1310 nm situations. This may not be much of an issue if
in fact the effect of dispersion is very small or well known.
NEXT MEETING
------------
Agenda: as proposed for this week
---------------------------------
Delay maximum
RIN measurement filter
Interworking 1310 <>1550
Other ramifications of shift to a box level spec?
Transmitter spectral width
What values of RMS width and full width, -20 dB down, are
anticipated? What dispersion penalties are anticipated in the 1310 band?
Any other issues to add?
Time and place

April 2001, for an hour and a half -ish, to finish by 17:00 GMT

People are having difficulty attaching to these calls; apparently the issue
is congestion not number of ports, so persistence is required. I shall try
to open the call five minutes before time to give people a better chance. I
won't have time to find another service provider before this call.
