[802.3ae_Serial] Important details for Santa Rosa Open Lab for clause 52

The response has been good for participation in the Feb 11, 12 Open Lab to
be held prior to the Clause 52 interim meeting next week in Santa Rosa. To
make the most of this opportunity, several issues need to be considered:

If you are interested in participating and have not contacted me
directly, please do so as soon as possible. We want to accommodate everyone
who is interested and need to lock down time slots by this Thursday Feb 7.
(I will be in direct contact with those who have already made commitments to
set final details for them). We need to know your configurations, connector
types, wavelengths etc to make sure we are compatible with your devices.

Almost everyone has requested a Tuesday time slot. If anyone can
come in Monday afternoon, it would make the logistics much easier. The
alternative is to have parallel testing and/or a very long Tuesday.

Remember that the key objective is to "test the test procedures" as
opposed to verifying component performance.

We need to have some parts that have marginal link performance to
determine how well the various methods screen bad parts and confirm good
parts (minimize false positives and false negatives). Bring what you can to
help out here.

The Wednesday and Thursday meetings would benefit from seeing
results from the previous days testing. I realize that it may not be
attractive to publicize results unless they were presented without identity.
Please consider if you would be willing to participate here. (This is not a
binding request. If after seeing results you feel they should not be
included in a broad presentation, you could remove them from the pool.) I
am open to suggestions on what might be appropriate results to present as
well as a format for presentation.

The engineers in Santa Rosa have been working extremely hard and have made
excellent progress in a very short time putting together working versions of
the various methods. I think the time and effort will be well spent.
