[802.3ae_Serial] From Serial PMD 31 July: practicalities of stressed eye/jitter measurement, Tx overload, near resolution on stressed OMA definition.
Difficulties in building a stressed eye:
Jitter added by the test receiver (scope or BERT) used for measuring it: a
"one hand clapping" type problem.
Possible need for another, really short, pattern for measuring the ISI, DCD
in the stressed eye.
Has anyone successfully synced a scope to the proposed test patterns?
Need to try out these things experimentally.
Discussion about what effects should be "in" or "out" of stressed receiver
sensitivity OMA. Some things are in the eye shape not in the power, some
are in the triple trade off, not in here. It sounded like the small group
on this call were reasonably agreed, but would pursue off line.
Transmitter maximum power definition:
Are receivers with +1 dBm overload available or not? Two opinions.
Would any Tx "power in the ones" spec hard to measure because it's
new and different to the traditional average power, or easy if one is
already assessing a transmitter with a digital communications analyser which
must have a calibrated dark level ("DC coupled") to measure the extinction
ratio as well as OMA?
