Hi Heath,
[The requested Class of the PD:] does not limit the maximum amount of power the PD may request from the PSE during Data Link Layer classification (see 33.5) but continues to limit the maximum power that the PD draws;
Given the number of us that were surprised to learn this was the case (including me) I'd offer that the sentence is in fact useful and important to understanding how the various sections stitch together.
I have made this statement in earlier cycles, however it is incorrect. We know the PSE is not required to police the PD, this remains true. I knew of no text or requirement that disallowed a PD from asking over DLL any amount of power, therefore, it could ask for any amount regardless of the requested Class. Today I discovered this: Permitted values for PDRequestedPowerValue only go up to PD_DLLMAX_VALUE. Which is: The value is set by pd_max_power, which is the initial value the PD gets from Physical Layer. In other words: the assigned Class. Which means that per the D2.3 text, if a PD gets demoted, it can't even ask it's requested Class. yseboodt_04 fixes that, and replaces pd_max_power by pd_req_class for the PD_DLLMAX_VALUE, thereby allowing a PD to DLL up to its requested Class. Given all that, the statement you refer to is no longer needed. Kind regards, Lennart From: Heath Stewart <00000855853231d4-dmarc-request@xxxxxxxx>

I've been trying to chime in but have no bandwidth. I'll summarize here and then have David speak for me going forward.
First, the structure of my recommendations was based on:
33.3.6: Requirements / statements common to single-event / multi-event
33.3.6.1 Requirements / statements specific to single-event
33.3.6.2 Requirements / statements specific to multi-event
Given that 33.3.6.1 went away many of the changes made by Lennart logically follow.
The only "actual" change I see is the removal of:
[The requested Class of the PD:] does not limit the maximum amount of power the PD may request from the PSE during Data Link Layer classification (see 33.5) but continues to limit the maximum power that the PD draws;
Given the number of us that were surprised to learn this was the case (including me) I'd offer that the sentence is in fact useful and important to understanding how the various sections stitch together.
Cheers,
-Heath
