Subject: Announcement - IEEE P802.3dj Task Force Review - D1.1

All -

For this Task Force Review – we will be following the same approach used with the initial Task Force Review (D1.0).

Given the size of the document and the amount of new technical specifications being developed for the first time within IEEE P802.3dj D1.1, the initial Task Force reviews will be different from prior Task Force reviews.  In the interest of full transparency, the leadership wants the Task Force to understand how the Task Force review of D1.1 will proceed.

Please take a moment to review the following-

·         Given the Task Force Review is beginning just prior to the start of a plenary week, the second Task Force Review will be 29 days to allow a full 21 days of review that does not conflict with the Plenary meetings.

·         The scope of the review will be left open for multiple drafts (anticipate at this time at least for D1.0 – D1.2).  The scope of the review will begin to tighten at later point as determined by leadership.

·         All submitted technical comments may not be considered with D1.1.   For D1.0, the technical comments not closed may be found at https://www.ieee802.org/3/dj/comments/D1p0/8023dj_D1p0_comments_not_closed_id.pdf.  Individuals may wish to review these comments to consider whether they need to be resubmitted.

·         The priority for comments will be determined by the Task Force Leadership and Editorial Team.  First priority will be given to “Big Ticket” items, which will be followed up with consideration of other comments that may be dependent upon resolution of “Big Ticket” items.

·         Formal submission of editorial comments is discouraged.  Any editorial comments that are formally submitted during the Task Force review will be addressed at the discretion of the editorial team.

·         Individuals wishing to submit editorial comments informally may do so by submitting a marked-up pdf document to mbrown8023@xxxxxxxxx).   Please note that these comments will not be tracked.

·         Finally, Individuals are reminded to review “IEEE SA Balloting and Comment Resolution Process Guidelines” (https://standards.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/import/governance/revcom/guidelines.pdf).

·         At the request of the Chair, the Task Force Chief Editor has identified the following key areas to highlight to the Task Force –

·         Clause 176 (symbol-mux PMA) was completely restructured, and needs a thorough re-review

·         Clause 186 is mostly new for D1.1, and needs a complete review

·         Link training for optical interfaces is new to IEEE 802.3, and, therefore its presence in Clauses 180 – 183 to be reviewed by our optical experts

·         In electrical clauses/annexes values for many TBDs were adopted during consideration of comments submitted against D1.0, but there are a significant number of TBDs remaining that must be resolved

·         In Annex 176E, the C2M specification methodology has been completely redone and needs a thorough review

The Task Force Review process will be reviewed with each draft recirculation and may be modified as deemed necessary by the Task Force leadership.

HOW TO SUBMIT COMMENTS

Acceptable comment types:

T = Technical

E = Editorial (discouraged, any editorial comments that are formally submitted during the Task Force review will be addressed at the discretion of the editorial team).  .

individuals wishing to submit editorial comments informally may do so by submitting a marked up pdf document to mbrown8023@xxxxxxxxx).  Please note that these comments will not be tracked.

1.    Input your comments to the comment spreadsheet at the URL: http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/spreadsheet/802d3_TFR_WGB_comments.xls

***  Please use this method, if possible.  It greatly reduces the workload on the editorial team.  Thank you!  ***

If you are not able to use the spreadsheet, you may use one of the following two methods.

A.         Access the comment tool at the URL (last updated September 2015): http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool_FM.zip

To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly.

The tool is: Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe

B.      Comments may be submitted in text (ASCII) form.  In this scenario, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.

PLEASE NOTE: The ASCII method involves a manual transcription; hence you are recommended to check your comments to ensure accurate transcription when the comment file is made available. Please use one of the comment tools above if possible.
