All,
At this point I have had multiple conversations with individuals regarding their efforts preparing for the May 2026 Session. I want to share some observations –
· It is not surprising that, as engineers, there are a lot of discussions underway on the technical problems being faced. As previously noted –
o The agenda for the May Session will be addressing comments submitted against D3.0. As this is the initial sponsor ballot – an increased number of comments is expected.
o It is anticipated that there will be a limited amount of time per comment to allow any significant conversation. Therefore, it is imperative that the time be spent now on building consensus on proposed remedies.
· While there are a number of ad hoc and informal meetings underway, the leaders of these meetings can’t be the facilitators of driving discussions towards consensus proposals. Therefore, I am asking any and all individuals working on any proposals to either email others or pick up the phone and call them and work towards consensus. Discussions between individuals is key!
As I have said for the past 20 years of chairing task forces and study groups in IEEE 802.3 – the real work of a task force happens outside of the meetings. Please use this time!
Regards,
John D’Ambrosia
Chair, IEEE P802.3dj Task Force
