[802.3_ISAAC] "Latency requirements for automotive camera systems"

Hi Kirsten,

This is a follow-up to the question I raised during your presentation about the low latency of existing products (GMSL/FPD-Link). You mentioned that you weren’t sure why these requirements exist, and I find it challenging to remove a requirement that isn’t well understood.

Low latency is not inherent; it requires design considerations to guarantee it. I’m extremely concerned about existing use cases that rely on this low latency, which weren’t discussed in your presentation. I hope others familiar with the automotive market can provide insights into why this low latency is essential for many automotive manufacturers that have adopted these solutions. We need to ensure support for applications that require this low latency.

Additionally, you previously highlighted the importance of time-to-market and easy adaptation for the 802.3dm PHY. Increasing delays for critical applications introduces extra risks and complicates the adaptation process, making it more time-consuming. For these reasons, I believe the 802.3dm PHY should provide a pathway to match the latency of existing solutions.

Best,

Alireza
