[802.3_NGBASET] IEEE P802.3bq/D2.4 25G/40GBASE-T Working Group 4th recirculation ballot
Dear Task Force Participants,
With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3bq/D2.4 25G/40GBASE-T Working Group 4th recirculation ballot.
Please note - if you have already cast a ballot on D2.0 or higher, and do not wish to change your vote, it is NOT necessary to cast another ballot.
Open date: Thursday 19th November 2015
Close date: Thursday 3rd December 2015 23:59 AOE
As stated in the attached announcement, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 13th March 2015. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.
Best regards,
David Chalupsky
Chair, IEEE P802.3bq 25G/40GBASE-T Task Force
-----
Dear Colleagues:
This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 4th recirculation ballot on the Amendment IEEE P802.3bq 25G/40GBASE-T. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Note that the options for submitting comments HAVE BEEN UPDATED, please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.
The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 13th March 2015.
Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.
BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 4th recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3bq/D2.4 and IEEE P802.3bq/D2.3 and the unsatisfied negative comments from the 3rd recirculation ballot.
FIVE CRITERIA:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/15/ec-15-0069-00-ACSD-802-3bq.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses.
BALLOT OPEN:
Thursday 19th November 2015
BALLOT CLOSE:
Thursday 3rd December 2015 23:59 AOE
The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://www.ieee802.org/3/bq/P802.3bq.pdf> and includes the following:
TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer and Management Parameters for 25 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s Operation, Types 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Specify Physical Layers (PHYs) for operation at 25 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s on balanced twisted-pair copper cabling, using existing Media Access Control, and with extensions to the appropriate physical layer management parameters
NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
With continued growth of server capabilities, network and Internet traffic, datacenters continue to require higher data rates for equipment interconnections. The IEEE 802.3 BASE-T family of technologies allows for seamless upgrade between older rates and newer rates. Currently, IEEE Std 802.3 does not support 25 Gb/s or 40 Gb/s BASE-T operation. There is a market need for low cost 25 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s BASE-T solutions with auto-negotiation capability for datacenter applications.
Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.

HOW TO SUBMIT COMMENTS
Acceptable comment types:
E = Editorial
ER = Editorial Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
T = Technical
TR = Technical Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
1. Prepare your comments in one of the following three ways. You are STRONGLY REQUESTED to use either the comment tool or spreadsheet. A comment entry tutorial is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/ballots/p802d3_comment_entry_tutorial_v1p0.pdf>.
a. Access the comment tool at the URL (last updated 16th September 2015):
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool_FM.zip>
To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly. The tool is:
Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe
b. Access the comment spreadsheet at the URL:
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/spreadsheet/802d3_TFR_WGB_comments.xls>
c. To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.
PLEASE NOTE: The ASCII method involves a manual transcription, hence you are recommended to check your comments to ensure accurate transcription when the comment file is made available. Please use one of the comment tools above if possible.
