[802.3_NGBASET] IEEE P802.3bz/D2.1 2.5G/5GBASE-T Working Group 1st recirculation ballot
Dear Task Force Participants,
With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3bz/D2.1 2.5G/5GBASE-T Working Group 1st recirculation ballot.
NOTE: If you've already cast a ballot on D2.0, you do not need to cast a ballot on this recirculation!
Open date: Monday 28th March 2016
Close date: Monday 11th April 2016 23:59 AOE
As stated in the attached announcement, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 22nd January 2016. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.
You may notice that the recirculation announcement sent to the 802.3 reflector used the term 5BASE-T instead of 5GBASE-T. We will accept ballots from either recirculation announcement, knowing that "5G" was the intent.
Best regards,
David Chalupsky
Chair, IEEE P802.3bz 2.5G/5GBASE-T Task Force
-----
Dear Colleagues,
This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot on the amendment IEEE P802.3bz 2.5G/5GBASE-T. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3>. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.
The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 22nd January 2016.
Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.
BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3bz/D2.1 and IEEE P802.3bz/D2.0. There are no unsatisfied negative comments.
CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bz/802d3_NGEABT_CSD_802.3_WG_approved_12-march-15.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.
BALLOT OPEN:
Monday 28th March 2016
BALLOT CLOSE:
Monday 11th April 2016 23:59 AOE
The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bz/P802.3bz.pdf> and includes the following:
TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Media Access Control Parameters, Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s Operation
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
This amendment defines Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) parameters, physical layer specifications, and management objects for the transfer of Ethernet format frames at 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s over balanced twisted pair transmission media used in structured cabling.
NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
There is a need for greater than 1 Gb/s Ethernet connectivity over structured twisted pair wiring to serve existing and growing needs of IEEE Std 802.11ac-2013 based enterprise wireless access points that approach 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s for IEEE Std 802.11ac-2013 1 Wave 1 and Wave 2 respectively. Availability of 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s signaling technologies enables interconnect solutions for enterprise wireless access points to switch applications to be served over structured Category 5e or better twisted pair cabling.
Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.

E = Editorial
ER = Editorial Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
T = Technical
TR = Technical Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
1. Prepare your comments in one of the following three ways. You are STRONGLY REQUESTED to use either the comment tool or spreadsheet. A comment entry tutorial is available at:
<http://ieee802.org/3/ballots/p802d3_comment_entry_tutorial_v1p0.pdf>
a. Access the comment tool at the URL (last updated 16th September 2015):
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool_FM.zip>
To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly. The tool is:
Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe
b. Access the comment spreadsheet at the URL:
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/spreadsheet/802d3_TFR_WGB_comments.xls>
c. To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.
PLEASE NOTE: The ASCII method involves a manual transcription, hence you are recommended to check your comments to ensure accurate transcription when the comment file is made available. Please use one of the comment tools above if possible.
