Re: [802.3_SPEP2P] [802.3de] D2.1 Comment responses posted, meeting reminder

On reviewing the comments and proposed changes, I need to modify what I said below.

I agree that we should remove half-duplex support in Clause 99 MAC MERGE.

I do not agree that we should remove half-duplex from clause 90 TSSI.

There has been significant discussion of issues with MAC MERGE and preemption. I have not seen any discussion showing issues with half-duplex and TSSI. I don’t believe that we have any reason to remove the text supporting half duplex in clause 90.

I would propose alternative remedies for the comments below:

66 – Accept in principal but remove the following from the suggested remedy

“Remove all edits to clause 90 from the draft (P 16 entirety)”

74 – Reject.

The commenter says “Either TSSI works in half duplex or it doesn't.  I have seen no evidence that limiting half duplex to P2P  makes half duplex all better.” This project is only dealing with point-to-point which is why it lists only point-to-point half duplex, and does not discuss multidrop. TSSI with multidrop half-duplex is addressed in 8023da_D0p6.pdf page 22.

Peter

George,

Thanks for this.

Based on the discussion I have seen on the reflector, and thank you to those who have been working on this, I think removing half-duplex operation from the objectives and from the draft is the right thing to do.

Regards
Peter

All –

The comments and proposed responses to the 9 comments submitted on draft 2.1 are posted at https://www.ieee802.org/3/de/comments/index.html

The comments are either editorial on the frontmatter (2 comments), or related to the inclusion of half-duplex operation in the draft.

All of the comments submitted on half-duplex recommend removing half-duplex functions from the draft and are predicated on requesting the working group to remove half-duplex operation from the objectives.

I believe the discussion on the reflector has been fruitful, and hopefully lays the groundwork for concise discussion at tomorrow’s comment resolution meeting.

Meeting information can be found at https://www.ieee802.org/3/calendar.html
