[802.3_NGEPON] ALU Fires NG-PON2 Starting Gun

This LR article  says “Alcatel-Lucent is aiming to get a head start on its fixed broadband infrastructure rivals with the launch of a commercial NG-PON2 product in the first quarter of 2015,

as the access network speed war cranks up to another level.” The article says Huawei is also talking up its NG-PON2 potential.

 

It also says “GPON has been the FTTx technology of choice to date, with millions of lines deployed globally, and the generation of technology that was originally expected to

follow it, XG-PON1 (designed for 10 Gbit/s downstream), has failed to find a market.”

 

I am not sure why the article says XG-PON1 has failed to find a market, although Huawei will deploy its XG-PON (10G-GPON) for Telefonica in Spain for its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) services
