Hi Duane, I relayed your concern to Ed Harstead on whether a 40 Gb/s serial interface had been defined yet in 802.3, after discussion on Eugene's NGEPON contribution yesterday http://www.ieee802.org/3/ad_hoc/ngepon/public/15mar/ngepon_0315_dai_01.pdf that included Ed's Ethernet serial data rate evolution graph. Ed pointed out that he believed this interface was defined in the 802.3bg standard (40GBASE-FR) in 2011 as follows: 40 Gb/s serial SMF PHY (40GBASE-FR) is specified in IEEE Std 802.3bg™-2011 (Amendment to IEEE Std 802.3™-2008), Amendment 6: Physical Layer and Management Parameters for Serial 40 Gb/s Ethernet Operation Over Single-Mode Fiber I looked at the standard briefly, and found this entry in Table 80-1: 40GBASE-FR 40 Gb/s PHY using 40GBASE-R encoding over one lane on single-mode fiber, with reach up to at least 2 km (see Clause 89) Regards, Bill -- Bill Powell Alcatel-Lucent Fixed Networks CTO Group 2301 Sugar Bush Rd.
