[802.3_NGECDC] IEEE 802.3 NEA Consensus Building: Future SMF Needs

Colleagues:

As announced in the September interim Working Group meeting, we will have an NEA meeting on 7 October, 2024 at 1000 am EDT time for initial consensus building on the following topic:

Title: Future SMF Needs

Description: This will be a consensus building activity to assess the single mode fiber parameters necessary to enable economically and technically feasible IMDD optics with greater than 200 Gb/s signaling. The focus will be on chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion. If different specifications than the ones found in existing fiber standards are needed, this will be communicated to other standards development organizations as appropriate.

Meeting coordinates can be found on the 802.3 call and meeting calendar here:  IEEE 802.3 Call and Meeting Calendar.  A meeting invite has also been sent out to the NEA Reflector.

All IEEE 802.3 NEA meetings require the participants to review the following documents prior to an IEEE 802.3 meeting teleconference:

• IEEE SA patent policy

• IEEE SA Copyright Policy

• IEEE SA Participation Policy and Code of Ethics

All of these policies may be found at http://ieee802.org/3/policies.html [ieee802.org]

Cheers

Jon DAmbrosia

Vice-Chair, IEEE 802.3 New Ethernet Applications Ad-Hoc
