Subject: [BP] IEEE P802.3ap Draft
0.7 now available for review
IEEE P802.3ap Task Force Members,
Per the direction set at the
November plenary meeting, Draft 0.7 of IEEE P802.3ap has been generated and
posted for review. Even though the document is incomplete, this partial
draft is being submitted for review with the following objectives:
·
Implement a change control mechanism for adopted
baseline text.
·
Mark the progress of the Task Force. Baselines
for 1000BASE-KX, 10GBASE-KX4, and auto-negotiation have been adopted and by
putting them in draft document form, these baselines may be reviewed in finer
detail and appropriate refinements may be recommended.
·
Highlight areas that need to be addressed to achieve
“technical completeness” and ensure that the new Backplane Ethernet
physical layers fit properly into the IEEE 802.3 architecture.
·
Since many Task Force members are new to IEEE 802.3,
this is an opportunity to become familiar with the document review, comment
generation, and comment resolution processes and tools. In that sense,
this serves as a “practice run” for the Task Force members and the
editorial team.
This first review period will be two
weeks. At the January interim, comments received during this period will
be reviewed and resolved. If a Task Force member plans to make a
presentation for adoption into the next draft, then it is highly recommended
that the Task Force member submit a comment with a reference to the
presentation as part of the suggested remedy
Please note that our top priority
for the January interim meeting will be work related to the completion of the
baseline. The definition of the 10GBASE-KR port type and the backplane
channel specifications are of principal concern. The first portion of the
meeting will be dedicated to these topics, and the second portion will be
dedicated to comment resolution (which includes changes to 1000BASE-KX,
10GBASE-KX4, and auto-negotiation).

this is the first time you have used this comment generation tool, please read
the instructions.
NOTE: Use of this tool
is greatly preferred, as the output it generates is easy to import into our
comment resolution database.
If you are unable to use the tool, please format your
comments and submit them as described below.
