IEEE 802.3ca 100G-EPON Task Force Work Items and Socialization

·         Review of Patent Policy.

o    Chair read the Call for Potentially Essential Patents – no replies.

·         Four Wave Mixing (Johnson)

o    “A few people had volunteered to investigate this issue before the July meeting.  Is there any progress to report?  It would be great if this could be discussed at next week's consensus-building call.”

o    Eugene, Phil, Dekun volunteered from the Whistler meeting, but are not currently in attendance to report activity.

o    Ed Harstead (Nokia) indicates some engineers from Nokia are looking into this.

o    Shawn E and John J have done some analysis.

·         PMD Call for Contributions (Effenberger)

·         100G-EPON Configurations (Kramer)

o    Comment from Bill that the matrix showing possible configurations may need to be extended to show 25G/10G option.

o    Another comment from Bill was that many other options are possible with upstream capacity exceeding the downstream capacity, but that these options are probably not very useful.

o    General agreement that the standard should fully specify 100 Gb/s operation and shall enable “subset” implementations for various components.

§  Market will decide which components make sense when assembled together into a system, and which don’t

o    Proposal to formalize this view via a vote at the next meeting, but the exact wording of the motion was not discussed.

·         25G- to 50G- to 100G-EPON Upgrade Scenarios (Kramer)

o    Discussion on how opex is impacted by the ”two-line-card” solution

o    Question from Francois on whether two-line card solution will be necessary in deployments requiring optical redundancy/protection

·         Deadlines:

o    Deadline for requesting time on the agenda and draft PDF files: Monday, July 18, 2016 AoE

o    See http://www.ieee802.org/3/ca/3ca_presentproc.shtml for details on submissions

·         Action Items

o    Glen to upload Duane’s skew calculator to common tools area (done – see http://www.ieee802.org/3/ca/tools/wavelength_skew/index.shtml)

o    Curtis to schedule weekly consensus building meetings from now until July 802.3 meeting (done – meeting invite sent 6/24)

o    Next week’s call:

§  FEC-aware channel bonding brainstorming session

o    Shawn to show FWM wavelength calculations in two weeks

o    Glen will create the first draft of definitions of 25G, 50G, and 100G OLT/ONU devices.
