[802.3_NGEPON] Notice: Special Meeting on PON Convergence

All,

Please find below the Webex information for the Oct 27 PON convergence meeting.

This is for those who wish to attend remotely.

For those planning to attend, please be reminded that the negotiated BBF hotel rate reservation deadline is tomorrow, Oct 7.  If you plan on staying at that hotel, it is strongly encouraged to book it now.

Also, for those who intend to go to just the PON convergence session, you do not need to register for the whole BBF meeting.  You can register by sending an Email to Gabby Bond (cc’ed here).  Non-BBF members are welcome.   However, if you are attending the other sessions of the meeting, then you would have to register as normal.

Sincerely,

Frank Effenberger

Great, thanks, Frank!  We can monitor as we near closer to the meeting, but for now I’ll use this as a base.

Also, if anyone plans to book a sleeping room at the meeting hotel can you please relay that the room block closes this Friday.  They need to book by then and to do so can go to:  http://www.marriott.com/meeting-event-hotels/group-corporate-travel/groupCorp.mi?resLinkData=Broadband%20Forum%5Emcipl%60bbfbbfa%7Cbbfbbfb%60169.00%60USD%60false%604%6010/21/16%6010/30/16%6010/7/16&app=resvlink&stop_mobi=yes

Thanks,

Christine

Sorry, please disregard my last email.  I had missed this trail.  We’ll have the WebEx set up in advance of the meeting and Gabby can provide the dial in details for forwarding.  If you could give me a rough guess of how many additional folks will attend that would be good so I can ensure the room is big enough.

Best regards,

Christine

OK.  On the registration – an informal Email method is OK – I do not expect a huge number of people coming in special to this.

I can spread that info on the call tomorrow and by Email.

Thanks Frank. We don’t necessarily need a separate registration, what they can do is just let us know (i.e. Gabby) by email that they are only attending the 2 hour session and then Gabby can register them with no fees. Feel free to give anyone who enquires Gabby’s email. Do note though that if they want to stay the whole week that they will need to pay the meeting fee. Is that ok?

Christine, we need webex, as Frank notes, for this joint 2 hour session, can you facilitate.

Many thanks,

Hi Gabby,

Regarding this special session, I need to ask you to set up two things:

1)      To put a special registration type on the meeting registration page, to make this 2 hour slot free of charge, and

2)      To set up a Webex such that the meeting can be televised.

I am sorry to drop this into your lap unexpectedly, but this opportunity came rather suddenly and we need to take it.

Let me know if you need anything from me.

Sincerely,

All,

As a follow up to this announcement, I wanted to answer a few questions that I have received.

1)       For those people who want to attend just the 2 hour PON convergence session, then there is no registration fee needed.  The BBF staff will work to make this happen.  More details to follow.

2)       For those who cannot make this meeting, the organizers are happy to extend the offer of holding similar sessions in the up-coming meetings of  the related standards groups, such as FSAN, Q2/15, or 802.3ca.

3)       In addition, the session will be broadcast using Webex, for those who can attend remotely.

Sincerely,

Frank Effenberger

To all interested parties:

There is a growing interest in converging all the world’s PON standards into a more harmonized set of documents.  The previous 1~2Gb/s and 10Gb/s generations of PON systems each have two PMD and TC-layer specifications, and numerous management solutions, in spite of the fact that these systems are very similar to each other.  The approaching 25Gb/s generation of systems gives us another chance to converge these systems into a single set of specification.  There are good practical, commercial, and architectural reasons that motivate all parties to work towards this goal at this time.  That said, the legacy systems must be protected from undue disruption.

The Broadband Forum would like to host a meeting on this topic with all stakeholders at its next meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.  The session will be from 8-10am on Thursday, Oct. 27.  Several introductory presentations will be made, followed by a round-table discussion on the concept, and on developing an action plan for future work.  More information on the meeting (logistics, registration, etc) can be found at:

We look forward to a productive meeting.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Frank Effenberger
