RE: 802.3 YANG OS Project June 2026 update

Folks,

I’ve dropped draft minutes file from the July plenary meeting at July Draft Minutes (*updated 7/13/26).

The group supported proceeding toward a first release as I proposed below. I said I would share some information about how I derived the module to CLA mapping below.

An important point is that CLAs are required for significant technical contributions to the model text. I’m defining significant contributions as one of:

Complete authorship of a module

Changes to 25% or more of a module

Significant authorship of a presentation defining how a model should work

The following are not considered significant contributions:

Comments that do not result in technical changes to the draft/models

Acting as an editor or running comment resolution

I’ve attached an excel file that contains my reading of the main contributors to modules based on my review of presentations, minutes and comment resolution for both:

IEEE 802.3cf - IEEE Std 802.3.2-2019 YANG Data Model Definitions

IEEE 802.3.2a - Revision to IEEE Std 802.3.2-2019 YANG Data Model Definitions

Modules not included in the release will still be available via the IEEE GET program and the GitHub repo standard/ieee/published/802.3. For models where a CLA cannot be obtained, the OS project may choose to rewrite the models based on 802.3 clause 30 at a later date.

Regards,

Peter

Folks,

The following is a quick update of where we are and what I plan to do next.

Please review the following and let me know:

  1. If you have any concerns with the proposal below

Next Steps

I plan to request permission from 802.3 in the July plenary to proceed to a first release of models from the OS Project. This release will be based on the models from 802.3.2-2025 and will not include any technical changes. Non-technical changes will include:

  • Reformatting
  • correcting obvious typos and other editorial errors
  • addition of license information
  • a new “revision” clause

Asks

The project would appreciate help in (at least) the following areas:

  • Reviewing the 802.3.2-2025 models against subsequent draft or published amendments for possible model updates
  • Defining/testing GitLab CI/CD automation
  • Automation tools for validating models against 802.3 Clause 30 and Clause 45

Regards,

Peter
