[802.3_DWDM] Supporters for Inverse RS-FEC sublayer baseline proposal

Shawn and I presented a proposal for a 100G (CGMII) Extender at the Long Beach meeting. The goal of the 100G  (CGMII) Extender was to put the architecture framework in place to support the new 100GBASE-ZR PHY (and assuming this PHY would need a new and more powerful FEC).

During the discussion following  the presentation in Long Beach, several questions were raised around the details of the MDIO register mappings and MMD numbering for the proposal baseline.

A small group of us got together after the Long Beach meeting to review this topic in the context of several potential 100GbE use cases. This exercise identified a serious issue with the proposed 100G (CGMII) Extender approach for one of the use cases. An alternative solution based on an Inverse RS-FEC sublayer was identified, and presented at several of the recent ad-hoc conference calls. For those interested in the background and wanting more details on what drove this change in direction, here are the links to the ad-hoc presentations.

Shawn and I will be making a baseline proposal for the new  Inverse RS-FEC sublayer at the  Vancouver meeting (see attached). If you would like to be listed as a supporter on this presentation please contact Shawn or myself via email.
