Following up on the discussion during today’s meeting, I have located the previous contribution I was referring to on reach calculations. That contribution was presented at the March plenary, and can be found
here: http://www.ieee802.org/3/ct/public/19_03/schmitt_3ct_01a_0319.pdf Specifically, the calculations for the OSNR limited case can be found on page 11. Those calculations show that over an 80km link with an amplifier at one end of the link only, with a reasonable (non-worst-case)
degradation of OSNR due to impairments of 1.7 dB, if your requirement is 15.5 dB OSNR receiver sensitivity you’ll have a margin of 2.1 dB of OSNR at the end of the link. So we could go for a higher minimum OSNR value, but we can’t go too far without impacting
our ability to achieve 80km with a single EDFA, and we’re cutting into a margin that’s not overly large in order to do so. Thanks. Matt To unsubscribe from the STDS-802-3-DWDM list, click the following link: https://listserv.ieee.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=STDS-802-3-DWDM&A=1 |
