Dear Colleagues,
Thank you everyone for the feedback on the various optical-related nomenclature that I proposed last week. Please accept my apologies for stepping away due to a hard conflict before all of the straw polls on the topic were completed.
I took away the following from the conversation and straw polls:
- For the parallel 500m and duplex 2km SMF, there was strong support to use the foundational nomenclature that was proposed in my presentation
as a starting point.
- Some tweaks may be needed.
- For the 2km parallel SMF nomenclature proposed, there was general support for the two directions that I proposed:
“DR” and “FR”. I noted the feedback that more detail on the exact choice of suffixes for both directions needed further discussion, including but not limited to:
- Should LEN be added to the 500m parallel case for the DR direction?
- Should the FR4.4 terms proposed in the FR case be something else, such as FR.4 or FR1.4?
- For the LEN representations for the DR PMDs (associated with 2km reach), there was a much stronger preference to use either “2” or “2km” than a “2000”. I will take this feedback into consideration for future proposals.
- Some tweaks may be needed.
If you have an interest in working with me on “DR” or “FR” nomenclature proposals (or both!), please send me a direct message.
With regards,
-Kent
