[802.3_DIALOG] IEEE 802.3 NEC Ad Hoc
Dear Colleagues,
At the July 2016 IEEE 802 plenary meeting, the IEEE 802.3 Working Group approved sending a letter to the NFPA in respect to Power Delivery over Communications Cabling <http://ieee802.org/3/minutes/jul16/outgoing/IEEE_802d3_to_NFPA_0716.pdf>. The letter expressed concerns once again with respect to the 2017 National Electrical Code revision and supported adding ampacity as specified in the appeal relating to NEC §840.160 submitted to the NFPA by Joel Goergen.
I assume as a result of IEEE 802.3 supporting that item of the appeal, I was sent a copy of the NFPA Standards Council final Decision #16-13 (SC#16-8-3-q) 2017 National Electrical Code by the NFPA <http://ieee802.org/3/minutes/sep16/FD_D16-13_SC16-8-3-q_NFPA%2070.pdf>. I subsequently received a letter from Ed Larsen, Chair IEEE SCC 18, outlining the options we have moving forward. While the letter was addressed to me, Ed has kindly agreed for me to share the letter <http://ieee802.org/3/private/liaison_docs/ieee/Letter_to_David_Law_22_Aug_2016.pdf> with the IEEE 802.3 Working Group. I have also received a copy of an NFPA Temporary Interim Amendment (TIA) form <http://ieee802.org/3/minutes/sep16/840.160%20TIArequest%208-30-2016_TCC.pdf> that was sent to the NFPA Standards Council related to NEC §840.160 Powering Circuits.
Based on the above I'm asking the IEEE 802.3bt Task Force to review these documents and make recommendations, if any, at the IEEE 802.3 interim meeting Thursday evening, 15th September 2016.
Best regards,
David
