Dear Colleagues,
The IEEE 802.18 Radio Regulatory Technical Advisory Group (RR-TAG) <https://www.ieee802.org/18/> supports the work of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) and the IEEE 802 wireless Working Groups and TAGs - IEEE 802.11 (Wireless LAN), IEEE 802.15 (Wireless Specialty Network), IEEE 802.19 (Wireless Coexistence), and IEEE 802.24 (Vertical Applications) - by actively monitoring and participating in radio regulatory matters worldwide as an advocate for IEEE 802.
While the above description may make it seem unlikely that IEEE 802.3 would have any interest in their activities, there are items in which we might potentially have an interest as they go beyond purely radio regulatory matters. I have listed two such items below and will bring similar items to your attention in the future. If you do have any interest in either of these items or any other IEEE 802.18 item, as with all IEEE 802 Working Groups, participation in IEEE 802.18 is open to any individual. The IEEE 802.18 Working Group Chair, Edward Au <mailto:edward.ks.au@xxxxxxxxx>, can help with any questions.
Best regards,
David

European Commission consultation: The future of the electronic communications sector and its infrastructure
URL: https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/consultations/future-electronic-communications-sector-and-its-infrastructure
The European Commission recently launched a consultation "The future of the electronic communications sector and its infrastructure" that aims to gather opinions on how the growing demands for connectivity and technological advances can affect the future development and needs of the electronic communications sector.
The Commission seeks to identify the types of infrastructure needed for Europe to stay ahead of transformative technological developments and lead its digital transformation in the coming years. The consultation also seeks the views of stakeholders on how to ensure that the investments required to deploy such infrastructure are mobilized in a timely manner across the Union. Lastly, it also covers the issue of how to ensure affordability of connectivity to consumers and how to move towards a more integrated single market for the connectivity sector.
The call for comments closes on 19 May 2023. If you would like IEEE 802 LMSC to respond, please prepare a contribution and bring it to IEEE 802.18 to review and consider approval no later than 15h00 ET, Tuesday 4 May 2023.

European Union Radio Spectrum Policy Group consultation: Questionnaire on the Role of Radio Spectrum Policy to help combat Climate Change
URL: https://radio-spectrum-policy-group.ec.europa.eu/system/files/2023-02/RSPG23-014final-sub-group-Climate_Change_Questionnaire-2023_0.pdf
The European Union Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) launched a consultation entitled "Questionnaire on the Role of Radio Spectrum Policy to help combat Climate Change" that aims to gather relevant information from Member States and stakeholders (and all interested parties) related to climate change.
Standards are mentioned in a few questions (c.f., Questions 7, 8). A few questions also asked for any new technologies to improve the energy efficient use of radio spectrum (c.f., Questions 11, 12, 13).
The call for comment closes on 12 April 2023. If you would like IEEE 802 LMSC to submit a response to this consultation. please bring a submission to IEEE 802.18 to review and consider approval by 15h00 ET, Thursday 30 March 2023.
