Colleagues, Following are some personal comments on PARs under consideration for the July plenary. Reactions to these comments or suggestions for other comments are of interest. —Bob Amendment project PAR: IEEE P802.1Qdy YANG for the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol 6.1.2 – The explanation continues the confusion on usage of “model” and “module”. From the title, it appears that the project will add a new YANG module rather than specify a YANG data model. Would it be better to change “The YANG Data Model will …” to “The Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol YANG data module will …”? 1.2.1 – The first use of MSTP is not accompanied by an unexpanded name next to the acronym – “Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) …” ________
Amendment project PAR: IEEE P802.11bn - Amendment: Enhancements for Ultra High Reliability 5.2.b – The project scope begins with an extremely difficult to parse run-on sentence. It would be helpful to know if these enhancements will apply to all 802.11 PHY types, or only selected PHY types (all PHY types is assumed in the following proposed revision of the project scope because of the listing of frequencies). Would the following better introduce the bulleted list: “This amendment defines modifications to both IEEE Std 802.11 physical layers (PHYs) and the IEEE Std 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC). The modifications will add Ultra High Reliability capability to Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Basic Service Sets (BSSs) or overlapping BSSs by providing:” 5.2.b – It isn’t clear what the box after the list bullets was supposed to be (see posted PDF).
8.1, 2.1 explanation – This is the only hyphenated usage of ultra high, be consistent. (It appears that “Ultra High” is chosen to agree with the previously used “Extremely High” (including capitalization within a sentence.)
8.1, 5.5 explanation, 3rd paragraph – Typo? “(Basis Service Set)”.
1.2.1 – The answer to Broad Market Potential addresses wireless LAN in general, not the broad market for Ultra High Reliability. ________
PAR modification request: IEEE P60802 Time-Sensitive Networking Profile for Industrial Automation No comments on the addition to the Scope. No comments (no changes to CSD indicated). ________
PAR extension request: IEEE P802.1DG Time-Sensitive Networking Profile for Automotive In-Vehicle Ethernet 3.5 – The fact that this project is still in TG ballot after more than 4 years with the last ballot producing 540 comments raises concern that the project will be completed in two more years. That said, I trust 802.1 to have evaluated if consensus is moving forward now raising the probability of timely completion.
No comments, no changes indicated. ________
PAR extension request: IEEE P802.1Qdj Configuration Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Networking No comments, RevCom submittal is now listed for July 2024 (e.g., for the September 2924 RevCom meeting).
No comments, no changes indicated. ________
