Dear UEC Members,
It’s official: as of 7:00 a.m. PT this morning, the Ultra Ethernet 1.0 Specification has been publicly released. This marks a major milestone for the Consortium—and a defining moment for the future of datacenter networking.
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/ultraethernet.org/ultra-ethernet-consortium-uec-launches-specification-1-0-transforming-ethernet-for-ai-and-hpc-at-scale/__;!!NpxR!l6kNjSpJ85UoMznsHvmXgu0dRkY59R0HgEZeujwSPmWbHqRJl5VQp4Qjgo3QfOMASTxnVpk2K89Km_adjIcrl13mOVGn1S11Aw$
On behalf of the leadership team, thank you for the extraordinary work, collaboration, and technical depth that made this achievement possible. The release of 1.0 reflects thousands of hours of engineering effort, cross-organizational coordination, and a shared
belief that Ethernet must evolve to meet the performance, scale, and efficiency demands of modern compute.
The industry is already taking notice:
• The Next Platform has described Ultra Ethernet as “a strategic realignment of Ethernet for the AI age,” recognizing the architecture’s role in supporting distributed AI and ML workloads.
• 451 Research anticipates that more than 40% of AI-enabled datacenters will adopt Ethernet-based fabrics tailored for AI/ML by 2027, placing UEC at the forefront of this transformation.
• Futuriom notes that Ultra Ethernet “has the potential to disrupt proprietary HPC interconnects and unlock a new tier of open, scalable networking.”
This is just the beginning. The 1.0 Specification lays the foundation for broad industry adoption and continued innovation—delivering on the promise of a standards-based, Ethernet-aligned fabric designed for the most demanding AI and high-performance workloads.
To every member who contributed—whether by writing, reviewing, debating, or building—thank you. This is your accomplishment, and the result speaks for itself.
As we move forward into implementation, adoption, and the 2.0 roadmap, today’s milestone serves as proof of what this community can achieve together. Let’s continue to raise the bar for what Ethernet can be.
With sincere gratitude,
J Metz (on behalf of the Steering Committee)
