Re: [STDS-802-3-EPOC] Unconfirmed Meeting Notes from 4/3/13 MMP Ad Hoc Meeting
Hi Eugene,
I agree. The CNU needs to listen to a broadcast profile or the CLT would be required to duplicate packets. There should be a clear definition in the baseline.
Thanks,
Ed...

Ed: A comment on you comment:
o How does Multicast work with MMP? LCD?
[Ed] The LLIDs are grouped into the per-profile virtual MAC control/MAC/RS/XGMII/PCS layers. Multicast/Broadcast could be connected to any profile but it would make sense to be the broadcast. CableLabs added support for multicast LLIDs. They could be connected selectively to any profile.
[Eugene] For TDD downstream, a group of LLID represent a profile; multicast/broadcast traffics either been duplicated between MMP or there is a common multicast/broadcast profile.
Thanks,
Eugene

Hi Joe,
Sorry that I missed the call. I went over the questions and responded below with my opinion based on the joint Qualcomm/Broadcom proposal for MMP at the Orlando meeting.
Thanks,
Ed...
o How do we convey to the CLT the MP of the US burst
[Ed] All of the modulation profiles are configured in the CLT PHY via MDIO. The burst marker on the upstream selects one of the configured profiles for decoding the burst. We have a different start marker for each profile.
o How do we convey to the CNU the MP of the DS burst
[Ed] The modulation profiles are configured by MDIO or PLC on the CNU PHY. The burst marker on the downstream selects one of the configured profiles to decode the burst.
o How do we convey the begin and end of a burst at a given modulation
[Ed] The start is defined by the start burst marker. The end can be an end burst marker or a start burst marker for the next burst.
o How many modulation profiles does a CNU support (not simultaneous)
[Ed] FDD CNU only supports a single modulation profile for upstream and downstream. The FDD CLT could support multiple profiles for the upstream. On the TDD downstream, I think that it needs to support 2 profiles. On the TDD upstream, I think that the CNU supports a single profile.
o On slide 14 of Ed's presentation, do the layered PHY Tx Burst boxes represent multiple PHYs?
[Ed]Yes, it represents multiple MACs and multiple PCS layers in the PHY. We need to decide where the virtual channels combine.
o How does Multicast work with MMP? LCD?
[Ed] The LLIDs are grouped into the per-profile virtual MAC control/MAC/RS/XGMII/PCS layers. Multicast/Broadcast could be connected to any profile but it would make sense to be the broadcast. CableLabs added support for multicast LLIDs. They could be connected selectively to any profile.
o How do you change profiles?
o Hitless movement between profiles?
[Ed] This is very tricky to avoid packet re-ordering for the downstream TDD mode. I'm not sure if I have an answer yet. The upstream FDD burst mode would use the configuration ID method.
o How do you change characteristics within a profile?
[Ed] I think that the hitless configuration ID switchover should handle this one.

Colleagues,
Please find attached the meeting notes from today's meeting. Let me know if you have any corrections.
Mark, please post these to the Ad Hoc page.
Thanks.
