Subject: [STDS-802-3] March plenary meeting announcement
TO: IEEE 802.3 Voters, Observers and Liaisons
Dear Colleagues:
IEEE 802.3 will meet Monday 9th March through Thursday 12th March in
Vancouver, BC, Canada. All IEEE 802.3 meetings are scheduled for the
Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The deadline for the early registration discount
is fast approaching, Friday, February 20, 2009, 6PM PST (Saturday,
February 21, 2009, 2AM UTC). As always, the IEEE 802 LMSC session
announcement, registration and current hotel availability information can
be found through the 'Next IEEE 802 Plenary session notice' link on our
home web page [ www.ieee802.org/3 ]. To receive email updates and
reminders for the plenary sessions, subscribe to the stds-802-ALL
reflector [ http://listserv.ieee.org ].
The opening IEEE 802.3 working group (WG) meeting will begin at 1:00 PM on
Monday 9th March, and the closing IEEE 802.3 WG meeting will be 1:00 PM on
Thursday 12th March. Task Force (TF) and Study Group (SG) meetings will
follow our typical schedule also found on our web site [
http://www.ieee802.org/3/plenary.html ]. The agenda will be approved at
the meeting, the draft agenda is available in the minutes area [
http://ieee802.org/3/minutes/mar09/ ] and will be updated as required
prior to the meeting. As usual, TF, standing committee and any appropriate
ad hoc meetings will be scheduled between the opening and closing IEEE
802.3 meetings.
The IEEE-SA has supported the development of an electronic meeting
attendance tracking tool (formerly known as IMAT). At this session we will
gather two records of attendance, the attendance tool and attendance books
in each meeting. The attendance tool will be the only official record of
attendance for building and maintaining Working Group membership. The
meeting attendance books will be very similar to the old IEEE 802.3
attendance books, there will however be one copy specific to each meeting.
The contents of these books will be recorded in the minutes for each
meeting and it is important that you review these minutes to make sure
your attendance is recorded correctly as this will be the backup should
there be an issue with the attendance tool.
As usual, attendance credit toward membership requires attendance at three
of the four days of the IEEE 802.3 session, independent of how long a
particular TF or SG might be meeting. The attendance system will only
allow sign in on Monday at the opening IEEE 802.3 plenary and on Thursday
at the closing IEEE 802.3 plenary meeting (not during the Thursday morning
meetings).
A number of WG decisions are expected during the IEEE 802.3 meetings (most
on Thursday). Depending on the amount of discussion, and though not
expected at this time, the Thursday meeting may run beyond our target 5:30
PM ending time. Additional subgroup information follows. Contact
information for contacting task force and study group chairs, and archival
project information can be found on our web site: [ www.ieee802.org/3 ].
I look forward to seeing you in Vancouver.

Project Authorisation Requests
------------------------------
The following are the PARs from other Working Groups for consideration at
the March plenary. Comments are due by 5PM on Tuesday so if there is any
interest to review any of these PARs an Ad Hoc will be chartered to
generate and submit the comments.
At the November 2008 IEEE 802 plenary meeting the IEEE 802.3 Working Group
vote to allow the IEEE 802.1 Data Centre Bridging Task Group to undertake
the IEEE P802.3bd Priority-based Flow Control MAC Control Frame project
hence the IEEE P802.3bd PAR will be considered under PARs from other
Working Groups agenda item.

Calls for Interest
------------------
Calls for Interest: http://www.ieee802.org/3/cfi/request_0309_1.html
There will be a call for interest in forming an IEEE 802.3 study group to
examine IEEE 802.3 Support for IEEE 802.1AS Time and Synchronization.
The IEEE 802.1 Audio/Video Bridging (AVB) project has requested IEEE 802.3
support for IEEE 802.1AS Timing and Synchronization protocol. This project
would be completing the work begun in the IEEE 802.3 Residential Ethernet
project, subsequently transferred to IEEE 802.1 that became the Audio
Video Bridging (AVB) project.
