Re: [802.3BA] question on clause 81 link fault signaling

Mark,

Sub-clause 81.3.4 specifically states that the link fault signaling only supports bidirectional operation.

My interpretation is that the Clause 81 RS (40Gb/s and 100Gb/s RS) does not support unidirectional operation. Clause 66 is very specific about the PCSs that do support unidirectional operation.

Subject: [802.3BA] question on clause 81 link fault signaling

Hi,

According to clause 81, the behavioral of RS link fault signaling is the same as it is for Clause 46.

However, Clause 46 link fault signaling specification may be modified by Clause 66 for unidirectional operation support.

Does it mean that 40Gb/s and 100 Gb/s RS also supports unidirectional operation?

Thanks,

Mark Pilip
