[802.3_MAINT] 63, 64 RE: ICN ad hoc report and recommendations

Pete, Tom and all,

The Ad Hoc has proposed on new and relaxed crosstalk limits for the mated compliance boards for 100GBASE-CR10 and 100GBASE-SR10, while keeping the existing limits for 40GBASE-CR4 and 40GBASE-SR4 (comment 64).  And we have proposed a new relaxed Qsq limit reflecting the worse connector crosstalk (comment 63 "CXP ICN needs to be increased. This will affect the Qsq of SR10 designs.")

However, I don't remember if we discussed what the Qsq change would apply to.  The comment says "Qsq of SR10 designs".  In another email to this reflector, John wrote "I expect that due care will be taken to limit the ICN related changes to the CXP connector.  I expect requirements placed on the QSFP+ connector will not modified."

Pete's mock-up of the changes shows new crosstalk limits for 10 lanes only, but a Qsq change for both 100GBASE-SR10 (10 lanes) and 40GBASE-SR4  (4 lanes).   However, I believe it would be more consistent, as well as minimising changes to specs currently in use, to restrict the Qsq change to 40GBASE-SR4.

Thanks,

Piers

Tom,

Thanks for the summary document.

The Ad Hoc discussed comment #i-129 proposing to change the 3 dB reference receiver bandwidth used by Clause 86A in Equation (85-28) and Equation (85-29) to 12 GHz.  The conclusion of the Ad Hoc was that this change was not needed as the ICN measured with a 7.5GHz reference receiver bandwidth should be  well correlated with the ICN measured with a 12GHz reference receiver bandwidth.  Please can you document this conclusion in the Ad Hoc report.

All,

The ICN ad hoc group met and produced final recommendations for changes to the document. Attached is the report and the related documents referenced in the report. For those of you that have not participated but have some interest in the results I recommend looking over the recommended change document by Pete Anslow (Changes for ICN v3.pdf)

Thanks to everyone that participated in this work
