Dear Task Force Participants,
With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx)/D2.1 Maintenance #11 (Revision) Working Group 1st recirculation ballot.
Open date: Saturday 7th February 2015
Close date: Saturday 21st February 2015 23:59 AOE
As stated in the attached announcement, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 7th November 2014. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.
Best regards,
Adam Healey
Chair, IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) Maintenance #11 (Revision) Task Force
-----Dear Colleagues:This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot of the revision IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) Maintenance #11 (Revision). Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 7th November 2014.Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.BALLOT SCOPE:During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx)/D2.1 and IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx)/D2.0 and the unsatisfied negative comments from the initial ballot.BALLOT OPEN:Saturday 7th February 2015BALLOT CLOSE:Saturday 21st February 2015 23:59 AOE
The Project Authorization Request for this Revision is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bx/P802.3_PAR.pdf> and includes the following:-----TITLE: Standard for EthernetSCOPE OF PROJECT: This standard defines Ethernet local area, access and metropolitan area networks. Ethernet is specified at selected speeds of operation; and uses a common media access control (MAC) specification and management information base (MIB). The Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) MAC protocol specifies shared medium (half duplex) operation, as well as full duplex operation. Speed specific Media Independent Interfaces (MIIs) provide an architectural and optional implementation interface to selected Physical Layer entities (PHY). The Physical Layer encodes frames for transmission and decodes received frames with the modulation specified for the speed of operation, transmission medium and supported link length. Other specified capabilities include: control and management protocols, and the provision of power over selected twisted pair PHY types.NEED FOR THE PROJECT: IEEE Std 802.3-2012 will need to have a revision initiated by 2015 to allow consideration of future amendments per standards board policies. This Revision will include the merge of IEEE Std 802.3bk-2013, IEEE Std 802.3bj-2014 and accumulated maintenance changes. It is also expected to include IEEE Std 802.3bm-201x. Because there are multiple other amendments in the "pipeline", it will be desirable to complete this revision by 2015 to provide a solid base for sponsor balloting of other approved amendment projects. These schedule considerations require that new capabilities or functional enhancement will have to be deferred to a future amendment project to avoid delaying approved and current proposed new projects.-----IEEE P802.3bm/Draft D3.3 was recommended for approval as an IEEE Standard on the IEEE-SA Standards Board Standards Review Committee (RevCom) teleconference held on 30th January 2015. This recommendation is currently out for email ballot of the IEEE-SA Standards Board, with a ballot close date of mid-February. IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) draft D2.1 incorporates IEEE P802.3bm draft D3.3 to enable early review of the merged document.Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.David LawChair, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working GroupPhone: +44 1631 563729Email: david_law@xxxxxxxxAdam HealeyChair, IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) Maintenance #11 (Revision) Task ForcePhone: +1 610 712 3508Email: adam.healey@xxxxxxxxxxxxx----------------------------------------------------------------INSTRUCTIONS FOR BALLOTING ON: IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) draft D2.1Instructions for accessing the ballot documents, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow.HOW TO ACCESS THE DRAFTThe draft is posted for your review for balloting purposes only, and neither the draft nor access information should be copied or redistributed to others in violation of document copyrights.A comparison file between IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) Maintenance #11 (Revision) draft D2.0 and D2.1 may be downloaded from:http://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION1_CMP.pdfhttp://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION2_CMP.pdfhttp://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION3_CMP.pdfhttp://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION4_CMP.pdfhttp://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION5_CMP.pdfhttp://ieee802.org/3/private/maint/bxballot/D2p1/P8023_D2p1_SECTION6_CMP.pdfUsername: <supplied at meetings>Password: <supplied at meetings>Please submit comments against the above draft. The IEEE P802.3 (IEEE 802.3bx) Maintenance #11 (Revision) draft D2.1 without change marks is also provided.
