Re: [8023-POEP] Ballot pool
Mike-
I agree with Hugh on this one.
Have you cleared this as a 802.3 valid procedure with the WG Chair?
Under 802.3 P&P, it is permissible for a TF to have voting/membership
rules. I don't think that means that a TF Chair gets to decide to impose
them unilaterally without notice.
The Task Force is the errand child of the Working Group.
The purpose of taking votes in the Task Force is to save time in the
plenary.
If you annoy members of 802.3 by an exclusionary voting process in your
Task Force
Then all you are doing is:
- Annoying the members of your oversight group
- Creating a hot topic for discussion in 802.3 that
+ creates anger
+ Distracts from your business at hand
+ Creates a climate disinclined to favor your
requests
- Setting up a situation where all of your decisions
will get fully discussed and voted on the floor
of 802.3
- Really annoy all of the other 802.3 TF Chairs
because of all of the plenary time you use up
Bottom line, bad idea.
Please reconsider.
Sincerely,
Geoff Thompson

Mike,
Does this imply that you are
disallowing any voters who are not on this list? I understand that a TF
chair may allow votes to include people who are not on the 802.3 voter
list, I'm not sure that a TF chair may exclude 802.3 voters who are
registered for the meeting (even if they are not regular TF
members).
Hugh.

Colleagues:
As stated in my opening remarks, we will be conducting votes (save those
without opposition) by role call. Please look over the attached
files to see that I have captured your information properly. There
are two files attached, one is Microsoft Excel 2003 SP2, the other is tab
separated other than format they are the same. E-mail me
(mike_mccormack@ti.com), not the reflector, with changes.
I will be requesting that everyone on the list see me to confirm that
they have registered for the meeting, check with me during breaks with
your name tag.
Cheers
Mike
