FW: Procedural Changes re: Coordination
NOTE WELL. COORDINATION WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED IN THE IEEE NESCOM/REVCOM
PROCESS, BUT IS STILL ENCOURAGED.

Subject: Procedural Changes re: Coordination
Hi Everyone:
This is to apprise you of a procedural change concerning coordination
recently approved by the IEEE-SA Standards Board that will be effective 1
January 2001.
The IEEE-SA Standards Board has streamlined the coordination process to
remove the burden of proof of intersociety, intra-society, and external
coordination from IEEE standards developers.
Standards developers will no longer be required to identify coordination on
the IEEE PAR form, and will therefore not be required to supply proof of
that coordination when they submit the draft standard for approval. There
will be mandatory coordination on the PAR form for all standards developers
with SCC 10 (IEEE Dictionary), SCC 14 (Metrics), and IEEE Standards
Editorial staff, which the IEEE-SA Standards Board will expect to be
satisfied.
Since this change is official as of 1 January, it will effect standards
projects that are currently under development with existing PARs that
include external coordination. Standards developers should be aware that
the IEEE-SA Standards Board will no longer require proof of coordination
with any bodies other than those considered to be mandatory coordination as
explained above.
It should be noted that communication with external bodies is still
encouraged through participation in standards working group activities and
inclusion of appropriate persons in the balloting pools for standards
projects.
If you have any questions, please contact me at r.gertz@ieee.org.
Best regards,
Rona Gertz
