RE: Arrangements for On-Site Networks at Hilton Head

In support of Buzz, I concur with his sentiments, and would like to also
point out again that 802.11 and 802.15 have working Wireless networks for
our memberships. This I believe is true for 802.16.

I hope that we do not have a confused situation as we did with the last
plenary with this 802 wireless network. Therefore I am suggesting that both
the 802.11 and 802.15 networks will hock on as a node on this network. But
if we have problems with the 802 network then we would run separately, as
our memberships rely heavily on this to have an efficient meeting.

With regards to the support of the 802 network, attendees will need to have
contact points for support issues. As we have in 802.11 (Tim Godfrey) and
802.15 (Rick Elfin), who have other important roles in their respective
groups. I personally would not like them to be involved in support for the
whole of the 802 network. Please bear this in mind.

Lastly, and more contentiously are we planning to have on the 802 network,
access to the outside world. We on 802.11 and 802.15 meetings do at our
interim meetings. This is included in the overall cost of the meeting, and
is subsequently taken out from the meeting fees. I know in the past this has
been a BIG issue in terms of cost and the need for requirement. Indeed I was
pinged on this, and subsequently went sick and went to bed (Hopefully, not
the cause of my illness). If we don't have it at the meeting, under the
behest of the collective Ex-Com, then so be it....

Regards,

Stuart

Subject: Re: Arrangements for On-Site Networks at Hilton Head

FYI -
I have just spoken with Don Berry regarding the arrangements for On-Site
Networks
at Hilton Head. He indicated that he will be meeting with the service
contractor
this afternoon to finalize a statement of work for what is required, which
he will
forward to me when it is complete. I will forward this document to the SEC
for
review and comment (with approval from Bob Grow required).

I have informed Don that we do not do Purchase Orders and that we typically
contract for work by means of a letter of agreement, which he said would
most
likely be OK. He will let me know if there is a problem with this.

I need to remind all involved in this that when this motion was approved it
was
specifically stated that Vic Hayes & Paul Nikolich were to be the prime
movers
on this project and that Buzz & Dawn&Co "already had too much on their
plate"
and could not be expected to provide much support for this effort. Don has
agreed
to do much of the logistical support for this meeting and hopes to make the
project
a simple "turn-key" operation for the future, but Vic & Paul will need to
take on the
supervisory responsibility for the future or to find alternate persons who
are willing
to do the job. There will be ongoing efforts required; count on it !!!

I have agreed with Don that if he will put together an announcement memo of
the
services to be offered and what to do to prepare to be a participant, I will
forward
the memo to the 802-ALL exploder and to the WG chairs for broadcast to their
individual WGs. This should get us adequate coverage. The memo must
identify
a person or persons who may be contacted for further information and
support,
and that person may NOT be myself or Dawn&Co.

Please cooperate to make this a useful enhancement to our plenary meetings
and
I think we need to review the participation and the value-add of this
project at SEC
to ensure that we are deriving sufficient general benefit to justify the
efforts and costs.

Thanx, Buzz
