[802SEC] Fwd: 1 Week delay on note posted to reflector
Folks-
Enclosed is an example, with date stamps, of a message to an 802
reflector that I received today. Please note that the delivery delay was
only a half an our short of ONE FULL WEEK!
If this were a single instance occurrence it would be, perhaps, excusable
but this has been going on for an extended length of time. My records
show first e-mails on the topic over 9 weeks ago.
It is obvious that this is not acceptable and that an e-mail system that
performs at this level can not be considered to be meeting the reasonable
expectations that IEEE members have for conducting business by e-mail. In
this case, the meeting in question had been scheduled for Tuesday, April
29, the day before the message finally arrived.
Please advise us on what we can do to remedy this situation or how you
are prepared to bring IEEE mail service to an acceptable and useful
level. It is my belief that if you can not provide a satisfactory
response then we will have no choice but to make other
arrangements.
Sincerely,
Geoff Thompson
SB Member, Vice Chair, IEEE 802

Moty-
Regarding hotels near the (potential) meeting site, both the:
- Hilton Santa
Clara (new,
about 1 year old)
- 4949 Great American Parkway
- Santa Clara, CA
and
- The Westin Santa Clara
- 5101 Great America Pkwy
- Santa Clara, CA
are within easy walking distance (between 5 & 8 minutes) of Nortel
(they are immediately north at the corner of Tasman & Gt America).
Both of them are also immediately adjacent to a streetcar stop to take
you to either downtown San Jose or downtown Mountain View. I know the
Hilton has a free airport shuttle. The Westin doesn't seem to.
Also within walking distance to the south is:
- Santa Clara Marriott (free
airport shuttle to/from San Jose)
- 2700 Mission College Boulevard
- (at the corner of Great America Parkway)
- Santa Clara, CA 95054
- Phone: 408 988 1500
- Fax: 408 727 4353
- Web:
www.marriotthotels.com
and
- Holiday Inn (free airport
shuttle to/from San Jose)
- 4200 GREAT AMERICA PARKWAY
- SANTA CLARA, CA 95054-1210
- UNITED STATES
- Toll-Free: 1800-5865691
- Tel: 1-408-2358900
- Fax: 1-408-9880976
After these four you pretty much will need a car unless you come
from some less obvious and more distant hotel and take public transit.
There are an enormous number of hotels in the area that service both the
business needs of Silicon Valley and the recreational travelers to Great
America Amusement Park (next door to us). Of the 3 above I would say they
all are typical business grade hotels and you should pick from them based
on what sort of web deal you can get. The Holiday Inn caters to a more
recreational crowd.
I hope this helps.
