Buzz,
I thought Atlanta was a fine venue. I appreciate downtown venues like Atlanta for the easy access to restaurants for dinners and quick lunches. I didn't poll anyone but I didn't hear any complaints on the area and I felt safe enough in the area. I've been there in the past for InterOps and I've never had a problem even walking and using the subway (which seems to have a fair amount of security staff) after dark. I doubt there is a significant crime difference between Atlanta and San Francisco - and at least it is less grim than downtown Albuquerque at night.
Also, Atlanta helps to balance out our locations which are a bit light on East Coast venues.
I found Airport transportation pretty easy since it is a straight shot on the subway.
Regards,
Pat

Thanx Jerry, I appreciate your input. Could you please tell me how many members were voting on that meeting site poll on Atlanta ???
Where I recognize it may not be anyone's favorite return site, I think Atlanta still represents an exceptional value site that may then allow us to return to other favorite venues for an average cost that is still acceptable overall. A lot of our guys ARE on fairly tight travel budgets these days so we need some value locations. Typically those offer lower prices for some reason. I saw no safety issue in Atlanta, any more than in any large Metropolitan Area. They just went to the bother of putting out an advisory to visitors message because they are trying to indicate their sincere effort to eradicate a prior problem. We had no reports of any incidents, and mostly got compliments for the courteousness of the downtown escort service.
Safety would not be my first concern for Atlanta, but transportation to and from the airport might be my number one. I thought the downtown location had more than enough good restaurant and night life options nearby to keep most folks happy all week.
Thanx, Buzz

Buzz,
I recognize there are few locations that we can fit into for a Plenary. I also recognize that we are offered very good financial terms.
However, I usually check with my members after a Plenary and ask whether they would want to return to the location. Though we did vote a motion on Atlanta after the last Plenary, virtually no member who attended Atlanta would rank this location as a desired return location. One main point is that the downtown area is not viewed as safe. I would not personally book another meeting in downtown Atlanta for other organizations that I manage or vote venues. I did manage a meeting last year in the Westin in downtown Atlanta for another organization and the view of the attendees was not to return.
Therefore, I vote No.

Jerry Upton
