Re: [802SEC] Updated Emergency Services EC Study Group Meeting Announcement

Nancy-
As I said in my earlier message, any attendance credit in a Working Group for ANY activity other than attendance at specific meetings of that Working Group and its sub-groups is something that would be within the power and discretion of the chair of the WG granting credit. I know of nothing in the 802 P&P mandating any such cross credit. I haven't been asked by any WG Chair to track & report attendance for that purpose. As far as I can recall, there is no precedent for such credit with previous EC Study Groups.

If you want attendance credit from Roger, then you need to take the topic up with Roger.

This situation is not very different with other instances where a WG wants a voting member to be a liaison to another WG or TAG that actually participates in the other WG.

From my view, there is nothing to be done on this end. If another WG chair or chairs asks me for attendance information, it will be made available.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Yes, I understand membership may be an issue, but what I am asking is reciprocal
credit so that the attendence in the EAS Study group has a method to allow
for reciprocal attenedence such as one would get by attending .18, or the .19 coexistence
study groups for example. Membership credit is not the case.
I am afraid that it may cost some attendence in this SG if it is not, which would be
unfortunate. Thanks, Nancy

Nancy-

The answer to your question is no.
There is no membership attendance credit associated with participation
in a Study Group meeting
(Some Working Group chairs may be willing to grant such credit. I
believe that it is within their discretion to do so although the rules
are not definitive in the area.)
You may be confusing a Study Group with the operation of a TAG.
Some TAGs do grant such credit.

I hope this helps,

Geoff

Colleagues-

Just a quick note to confirm the arrangements for the Emergency Services
Executive Committee Study Group meetings to be held in Hawaii.
Face-to-Face has confirmed my requested schedule of T/W/Th (as shown in
my earlier message below).
I look forward to meeting you and meeting with you in Hawaii.
One additional item that I would like to add to the agenda as shown
below is:

      * Appropriate scoping of successful projects

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to get in
touch with me any time between now and the meetings.
(Also, if there is anyone that is interested in the work of the SG but

[SEC members, please forward this to your WG distribution lists]
Colleagues-

As many of you already know, at the July Plenary the 802.21 Emergency
Services Study Group PAR that had been distributed to the rest of 802
for approval consideration was withdrawn. The Study Group itself was
changed from a 802.21 Study Group to an Executive Committee Study
Group. Geoff Thompson (yours truly) was appointed by the chair of 802
to be the chair of the new Emergency Services Executive Committee Study
Group (ES-ECSG).

The ES-ECSG will be meeting during the 802 Wireless Interim Session
during the week of September 20-25, 2009. The session will be held at
the Hilton Waikoloa Village (On Hawaii's Big Island), Waikoloa, Hawaii, USA.

Please see: http://ieee802.facetoface-events.com/sessions/58/index.php
for meeting hotel reservation and session registration requirements.

My plan is to hold meetings:
       Tuesday morning
       Tuesday afternoon
       NOT Wednesday AM (to allow atten. at 802.11 midweek plenary)
       Wednesday afternoon
       Thursday morning
The above schedule is somewhat subject to change based on meeting room
availability. I will let you know promptly as soon as we have confirmed
meeting space or are given a requirement to change the above schedule.

Items on the agenda will be:

      * Introduce new chair
      * Introduce established participants to new chair
      * Set ground rules for ECSG and organization thereof
      * Finalize schedule and agenda for the week
      * Review current PAR&   5 Criteria
      * Review July inputs to P&5C from other WGs
      * Generate (requested) status report to 802.11 (late Tues PM)
      * 802 Scope&   architecture relationship discussions
      * Plans for going forward

I look forward to working with you all in formulating and defining a
project that will be satisfactory to all of 802.

If you have any questions, comments or requests for presentation time
please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
