[802SEC] IEEE in 2030 - Presentation from the IEEE Committee and TAB discussion forum

Dear EC members,

Please see the below request for comment on "IEEE in 2030" a long term vision for the IEEE from senior volunteers such as yourself.  I should have passed it along to you over a month ago, but it got buried in my inbox and I'm just getting to it now. My apologies.  The formal comment period has closed, but I'm sure if you have comments now, that Vincenzo Piuri will be more than willing to accept them. <vincenzo.piuri@unimi.it>

Regards,

From: Vincenzo Piuri, 2015 IEEE Vice President for Technical Activities

Dear Friends,

the IEEE Board of Directors is working on the strategic long-term vision for a successful IEEE in 2030 and beyond. The goal is to answer the question: What changes must we make now to best position IEEE for success in 2030, while still supporting the needs of technologists between now and then?

The current status of this strategic thinking is reported in the presentation "IEEE in 2030: Create a Nimble, Flexible, Forward Looking Organization," by 2015 IEEE President-Elect Barry Shoop.

Since I am firmly convinced that IEEE is collectively run by all voluteers, with the cooperation of our outstanding staff, I think that it is essential that the whole senior leadership in our communities is involved in the analysis and decision process as earlier as possible.
Any change in our IEEE needs to be the outcome of a collective effort involving the whole community in an open and transparent discussion, listening the opinion of everybody in an open/minded way. This will ensure that also the future IEEE will continue to be our IEEE, where each of us can contribute and feel at home.

For expanding the discussion as much as possible by involving our senior leadership, TAB makes available the above presentations and a forum for collecting feedbacks at http://taops.ieee.org/operations/ieee-in-2030.html

I warmly encourage you to provide comments on the ideas contained in the above presentations, by 23 October 2015.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

ciao, vin
