- Thread-topic: Submittal of two PARs to divide an IEEE 802.3 existing work item under the 48 hour rule
Dear Colleagues,
Subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC approval' of the IEEE 802 LMSC Operations Manual states that 'At the discretion of the Sponsor Chair, PARs for ordinary items (e.g., Maintenance PARs) and PAR changes essential to the orderly conduct of business (e.g., division of existing work items or name changes to harmonize with equivalent ISO JTC-1 work items) may be placed on the Sponsor agenda if delivered to Sponsor members 48 hours in advance.'.
Based on this above subclause, and the concurrence of the sponsor chair as required, please find below the required information in respect to an IEEE P802.3cn PAR modification request and a new IEEE P802.3ct PAR to divide the current IEEE P802.3cn PAR. The sum of the scopes of the two draft PARs is equal to the scope of current IEEE P802.3cn PAR.
Best regards,
David

[2] Explanatory technical background material:
It became apparent that the 50 Gb/s, 200 Gb/s, and 400 Gb/s Operation over Single-Mode Fiber portion of the IEEE P802.3cn project, which is an extension of existing IEEE 802.3 specifications, could be developed on a faster timeline than the DWDM portion of the IEEE P802.3cn project. As a result, the 100Gb/s and 400 Gb/s Operation over DWDM Systems portion of the project has been removed from the IEEE P802.3cn PAR and placed in the new IEEE P802.3ct amendment PAR.
[3] Status of the development:
The draft PARs and CSDs are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at its closing plenary Thursday.
