[802SEC] IEEE P802.3ct draft PAR and CSD modification request and IEEE P802.3cw draft PAR and CSD

Dear EC members,

In support of subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE P802.3ct Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 100 Gb/s Operation over DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) systems draft PAR modification request and the associated IEEE P802.3cw Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 400 Gb/s Operation over DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) systems draft PAR.

These PARs and CSDs are in support of 'splitting' the current IEEE P802.3ct IEEE P802.3ct PAR, with the sum of the scope of the IEEE P802.3ct IEEE P802.3ct 100 Gb/s over DWDM systems draft PAR modification request and the IEEE P802.3cw IEEE P802.3ct 400 Gb/s over DWDM systems draft PAR being equal to that of the current IEEE P802.3cn 100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s over DWDM systems PAR.

[2] Explanatory technical background material:

It became apparent to the IEEE 802.3 Working Group that the market demands and the state of technology for 100 Gb/s Ethernet and 400 Gb/s Ethernet over DWDM systems are different, and that a faster timeline for the 100Gb/s Ethernet portion of the IEEE P802.3ct project could be achievable. As a result, the 400 Gb/s Operation over DWDM Systems portion of the project has been removed from the IEEE P802.3ct amendment PAR and placed in the new IEEE P802.3cw amendment PAR.


[3] Status of the development:

The draft PAR and CSD responses are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the November 2019 plenary.
