I'm not saying that 802 should not use this slot - we use it extensively. On most days we have more than one. That is why in some WGs we have lately been encouraging bi-weekly TCs instead of weekly - to share more effectively the prime time.
I am saying that if we want participation across multiple WGs this time slot doesn't work. Picking the one time that assures conflicts seems counter to the goal.

I understand the issue with overlapping meetings in the popular slot. I think we all deal with this. But I am troubled by the implication that as a result 802 shall not schedule meetings in that slot.
While a 3pm ET slot would be equitable for the EC, it is not for 802 as that is 5am in Japan & Korea, 4am in China and 1:30am in India.
My intent with the timing was to make it equitable for all 802 participants. If we do not want to do that, then we can choose another time.
Cheers, Glenn.

Glenn, The problem is not the other 802 mtgs. It’s all the other SDO’s and business alliances that several of us participate in addition to 802, that all use 802 standards. I’ll list just a few:
and I’m sure I’ve missed some. Because they’re all int’l. and involve many people from each of N.A., Asia , and Europe regions they all use the same sweet spot of hours (9am-noon or even 1pm Eastern), which results is 2-3 calls in parallel during the resulting highly congested sweet spot hours.
That’s why we should move the mtg. to the afternoon Eastern time like the EC related mtgs., and really most any day works (Fri. is best) as far as minimal overlapping goes. Eastern time between 2pm and 5pm gives a 3hr block everyday in which no one is up before 6am or up after 11pm, and avoids the highly congested sweet spot hours

I checked the 802 calendar - IEEE 802 Calendars – to schedule this, and the only other meeting on Dec 2 is 802.18 at 3pm ET.
Are there other 802 meetings that are not showing here?
Cheers, Glenn.

And that is exactly why it is always full.

Thanks Clint,
I picked this slot as it is currently the most equitable across all time zones. But that is also why there are multiple calls in this slot.
That said, the 9am ET slot is poor for Australia. The World Clock Meeting Planner - Results (timeanddate.com)
Which is why we moved the EC slot to 3pm ET. But that slot is poor for the rest of Asia (but there are no EC members from Asia).
Another alternative is that we could alternate slots, as I plan to hold a series of these.
Cheers, Glenn

Glenn, Thank you for the notification. I would like to suggest holding this plenary later in the day – during a time similar to the monthly EC calls. Myself as well as many others are overly inundated with multiple parallel calls in the 8am-11am Eastern time slot. I’m sure we’d all like to be as focused as possible during this important series of meetings.

Colleagues,
Based on some offline discussions with Paul and others, I would like to restart the 802.1 technical plenaries to kick off a wider discussion on the 802 Overview & Architecture, as well as address cross 802 issues.
To avoid conflict during the busy virtual November plenary, the first in the series will be on Dec 2nd from 9-11am ET.
This series of meetings would:
In addition, this would provide the opportunity to discuss technical points across all WGs, for example:
Topics for discussion are invited and should be proposed to the 802.1 WG chair. The agenda and topics for the first meeting will be posted 14 days in advance.
Attendance is open to all 802 WG participants. To ensure all WGs are represented, 802 WG chairs are invited to identify at least one voting member to attend the technical plenary.
I would encourage you to inform your WGs about the technical plenary: https://1.ieee802.org/technical-plenary/
I will introduce this as well during the EC meeting on Nov 5th.
Cheers, Glenn.
